What this calculator includes
It estimates asphalt driveway paving cost from area, length, width, project type, asphalt depth, asphalt mix, aggregate base depth, base prep, demolition, grading, drainage, subgrade, equipment access, apron work, haul-off, permit allowance, local labor, timing, contingency, and minimum mobilization.
Why paving quotes vary
Two driveways with the same square footage can price very differently if one needs full base rebuild, old asphalt removal, steep grading, water management, curb tie-ins, or remote equipment staging.
Planning note
This is a budget planner only. It is not a paving specification, drainage design, engineering opinion, permit determination, warranty, or instruction to operate paving equipment. Confirm thickness, base, compaction, slope, drainage, and local requirements with qualified paving contractors.
Example: standard replacement driveway
A 700 to 900 sq ft replacement with 3 inches of asphalt, 6 inches of aggregate base, thin asphalt removal, standard grading, and average access often lands in the middle range because demo and base prep both matter.
Example: overlay scope
An overlay can be cheaper when the existing base is stable and drainage is acceptable. If the old driveway has base failure, alligator cracking, or low spots, replacement may be more realistic than a thin overlay.
Example: quote comparison
Ask each contractor to separate asphalt thickness, base depth, demolition, compaction, grading, drainage, apron transitions, haul-off, warranty, and timing. A low bid may assume a thinner mat or reused base.
